July 21- August 1 Weekend freeway closures and restrictions in the metro Phoenix AZ

Freeway improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions this weekend. Freeway work often occurs overnight. The Arizona Department of Transportation  recommends drivers consider alternate routes or give themselves extra travel time while the following restrictions are in place:

• Interstate 10/Seventh Avenue and Loop 202/Arizona 51

Closure: Eastbound Interstate 10 closed overnight between Seventh Avenue and the Loop 202/Arizona 51 interchange from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday for tunnel cleaning and maintenance. Southbound I-17 ramp to eastbound I-10 also closed.

Detour: Consider southbound Interstate 17 as an alternate route to connect with I-10 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Eastbound I-10 traffic will exit to northbound Seventh Avenue and go east on McDowell Road to reach the I-10 entrance ramp east of 16th Street.

• Interstate 17/Carefree Highway and Dixileta Drive

Restriction: Southbound Interstate 17 narrowed to one lane overnight between Carefree Highway (Arizona 74) and Dixileta Drive from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday through Monday nights for freeway management system work.

Detour: Allow extra travel time and be prepared to merge safely in work zone.

• Loop 202/Scottsdale Road and McClintock Drive

Closure: Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) on-ramp at Scottsdale Road and westbound on-ramp at McClintock Drive closed from 9 tonight to 4 am. Saturday for barrier wall work.

Detour: Please use alternate routes while ramps are closed. Westbound on-ramp at Scottsdale Road open.

• Loop 202/Interstate 10 and Arizona 51

Closure: Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramps from westbound Interstate 10 and southbound Arizona 51 (Piestewa Freeway) closed overnight from 10 tonight to 7 a.m. Saturday for barrier wall work. 24th Street also closed in both directions overnight.

Detour: Consider eastbound McDowell Road to southbound 32nd Street as alternate route to connect with eastbound Loop 202.
